Honesty, transparency and diligent cooperation are fundamental principles underpinning military aviation. Addressing graduants... of the Botswana Defence Force Aircraft Maintenance course in Thebephatshwa Airbase on recently, Brigadier Gilbert Dithupa said the aviation sector was technology driven, hence continuous upskilling was paramount. He told graduates that what they had covered during the course was, but a fraction of what they would require during their career in aircraft maintenance. Further, he said the qualifications they had acquired would only be recognised through diligent service to the organization. Also, he hailed the collaborative efforts between the international Training and Support (ITS) and BDF in equipping the technicians with vital skills. Managing director of ITS, Mr Joachim Kuehnrich underscored the need for graduates to keep a high level of aircraft knowledge by continually practising what they had learnt. He told the technicians that to maintain an aircraft is one thing and to fly it is one thing, hence it was crucial to bear in mind that people rely on their work they had done. He said the team was ready for challenges since the course they had undertaken was of high standard and met international standards. He urged them to keep advancing their knowledge as technology keeps advancing. Lt Tshepiso Sehuhula said, on behalf of students, that it had been a rough, long journey that was physically challenging.
In the past, he said aviation was known to be for the few elites, but today aviation had developed to certain depths, hence everyone who wanted to get into the industry could happily do that. He also said even though the course was challenging, they soldiered on since they were eager to learn, and they left no stone unturned. Therefore, he said flight safety would never be compromised neither maintenance would never be improvised. (BOPA)
