Basic Engineering and Technology Training

The first training phase as shown in the figure above provides a sound technical basis for all orientations, consisting of:

​

• Trade-related Academics

• Basic Engineering Training

• Technology Training including practice-oriented workshop courses

This entry-training module for a Mechanic or Technician career-path may also be called 'Vocational Training'. It deals with technologies and skills that have to be mastered by all trainees, irrespective of their future trade orientation.

 

Trade Training and Advanced Trade Training

After trainees have completed the 'Basic Engineering and Technology Training' they continue with the trade training. From this point on, students are educated in the technology and equipment directly related to their future working environment. Graduating from the trade training, trainees should be able to:

​

• carry out functional and performance checks,

• perform preventive maintenance measures according to a Planned Maintenance System (PMS),

• recognise equipment failures,

• carry out general fault diagnosis and failure analysis,

• perform corrective maintenance on equipment of their specialised trade.

​

After completion of the trade training, the graduates are prepared to start the work in their specialisation. However, in every organisation there must be experts to supervise, coordinate and plan maintenance as well as to train people. Therefore, successful graduates with results above average who have gained some experience on-the-job will be prepared for these duties in Advanced Trade Training Courses.
